Organizations
Introduction
This pages covers organization functionality of the Belong platform. The guide is designed to help you understand how our site operates, focusing on the key features related to organizations (and memberships).
To aid writing about organization we have assembled a set of questions:
Organizations
Organizations on Belong platform are professional associations, and teoretically anyone can become a member of it who has required qualifications or has fulfilled prerequisites.
Organizations on our platform are primarily professional associations representing professionals in specific fields and locations. For example, the American Psychological Association (APA) is an organization that represents psychologists in the United States.
Purpose of Organizations
Organizations serve several purposes for different users.
For Members
Professional Affiliation: Members have the organization's signature displayed on their profile, indicating their professional affiliation.
Public Verification: Membership can be publicly verified by third parties.
Membership Tracking: Members can monitor their membership status, such as fee payments and expiration dates.
For Organizations
Membership Management: Automates the membership process, saving time and effort for non-profit organizations.
Active Member Overview: Provides a real-time count of active members, useful for activities like vote counting at annual meetings.
Promotion: Showcases active members.
Professionalism: A public list of members is an indicator of the organization's competence.
API Integration: Allows organizations to display their members on their own homepage while maintaining membership data on the platform, reducing IT costs.
For All Users
Transparency: Enhances transparency, which has numerous positive implications.
Memberships
A membership is formed by the combination of an organization and a person (profile). Each organization holds and manages its memberships, which can be tracked and verified through the platform.
List of Organizations
Our site features a dedicated page where you can view, search, and filter a list of all organizations.
Organization Page
Each organization has its own page containing the following information:
Organization Logo: Displayed on both the organization's page and the profiles of its members.
Details: Contact information, banking and billing details, legal information, etc.
Description: A free-form section for organization-specific information.
Member List: A list of 'accepted' members.
Administration
Organization data management revolves around administrators, who manage the organization's profile and memberships.
Administrator Roles and Permissions
Creating: Any logged in user can create an organization.
Viewing: Public organizations can be viewed by anyone.
Editing: Only administrators can edit organization details.
Publishing: Administrators can publish drafts of the organization at any time.
Unpublishing: Only possible when there is no membership history with any person. Only administrators can unpublish the organization.
Deleting: An organization can only be deleted if there are no 'accepted' memberships. To delete an active organization, first, cancel all 'active' memberships. Deleting an organization also deletes all related memberships.
Managing Administrators
Administrators are identified by their email addresses, which must be registered on the platform.
Administrators can add or remove other administrators, except themselves.
Deleting Your Account
If you decide to delete your account, the following rules apply:
Administrator Role: If you are one of many administrators, you will be removed from the list. Other administrators get notified.
Sole Administrator: If you are the last administrator of an organization, the organization and its memberships will be deleted. "Accepted" members get notified.
